Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Ladder for Respiratory Therapists


TRU Respiratory Therapy Diploma graduates can apply credits from their diploma toward a TRU Bachelor of Science degree. Prospective applicants should be aware that this is a traditional academic degree and not a specialty in Respiratory Therapy. Graduates of RT diploma programs other than TRU will be assessed individually for prerequisites and may be required to upgrade before admission to the B.Sc. program.

1. TRU RT Diploma graduates will receive 60 credits toward the BSc, including those detailed below.

2. First year science requirements - Respiratory Therapy graduates will receive credit for 3 first year credits in each of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computing, and Math. Further first year science credits will be required to meet specific BSc requirements.

3. English requirement - Respiratory Therapy graduates are given 6 credits toward the English requirement for the B.Sc. program.

4. Non-Science Elective Credit - In addition to the 6 credits of English, students will receive a further 12 non-science elective credits.

5. Upper Level Elective Credit - 18 upper level elective credits will be granted for the graduate's third year clinical experience in Respiratory Therapy. Credit will be granted for Biol 3540 and 3550 as part of these 18 credits.
