Students entering the program following high school graduation with only CHEM 11 will require two first year chemistry courses. These students will not be able to complete the entire first year syllabus in one year, but may still be able to transfer at the discretion of the receiving institution. These students will normally complete the following courses during their first year:
Fall Semester:
APSC 1200 Introduction to Engineering
COMP 1520 Principles of Software Development
DRAF 1520 Engineering Graphics
CHEM 1500 Chemical Bonding and Organic Chemistry
EPHY 1150 Physics for Engineering I
MATH 1130 Enriched Calculus I
MATH 1300 Linear Algebra for Engineers
Winter Semester:
CHEM1520 Principles of Chemistry
EPHY 1250 Physics for Engineering II
EPHY 1700 Engineering Mechanics I
EPHY 1990 Introduction to Engineering Measurement
MATH 1230 Enriched Calculus II
ENGL 1100 Composition
Students intending to transfer to UBC will be missing a required complementary studies elective. See the above list. Students intending to transfer to UVic will be missing COMP 1230.
Students may enter the program from prior studies in science or a related discipline. Previously completed TRU or equivalent courses with sufficient standing may be suitable for advanced credit in first year engineering. These students will normally take a mixture of first year engineering and second year science courses selected in consulation with the program coordinator.
TRU Courses Suitable for Advanced Credit Consideration:
CHEM 1500, 1520
COMP 1130
PHYS 1150, 1250
MATH 1140, 1240, 2120
*Additional TRU Courses Suitable for Engineering Transfer Studies:
MATH 2110, 2240, 3170
STAT 2000
PHYS 2150, 2250
GEOL 1110
CHEM 2xxx
COMP 2xxx
Additional Complementary Studies Electives
*Not all of these additional courses will be transferable.
