The TRU Faculty of Science congratulates all the graduating students but is especially proud to announce that six students received large National Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) scholarships this spring.  These are prestigious awards that serve as an indicator of the exceptional education and research training these students are receiving at TRU as undergraduate students.

The following five students won the Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarships of $17,500:

  • Brittany Dever (Chemistry: Supervisor Dr. Kingsley Donkor)
  • Alysa McCall (Biology: Supervisor Dr. Karl Larsen)
  • Kendra Robinson(Biology: Supervisor Dr. Lyn Baldwin)
  • Samantha Keller, (Chemistry: Supervisors Dr. Kingsley Donkor and Dr. Nela Mora-Diez)
  • Scott Foubister (Physics: Supervisor Dr. Normand Fortier)

Marisa Azad (Cellular and Molecular Biology: Co-supervisors Dr. Heidi Huttunen-Hunnelly and Dr. Cindy Ross Friedman) has been awarded the Julie Payette NSERC Research Scholarship for $25,000.  Marisa is one of only 24 recipients from across Canada.

These students are not only NSERC winners but are receiving entrance scholarships as well.  Brittany Dever is the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II entrance award ($11,000) and the Centennial Scholarship ($2000).  Scott Foubister is heading to the University of Waterloo to pursue his Master of Physics in quantum information at the Institute for Quantum Computing(IQC) and has been offered $21,000 in entrance scholarship money from the IQC. Alysa McCall has also received supplemental money to cover her tuition and $2000 extra.  Kendra Robinson is receiving a supplemental top up for her NSERC also.  Marisa Azad has been accepted into the Joint MD/PhD program at the University of Illinois, with a scholarship of $60,000/year for 8 years.  See TRU Newsroom for other details.
