Definition of Scholarship

Nursing is as a profession with a specialized body of knowledge.  Building on this body of knowledge requires rigourous inquiry, reflection, peer review, and multiple perspectives that relate to nursing practice, education and administration (Boyer, 1990; Riley)    Scholarship of discovery (acquiring new knowledge), teaching (transfer of knowledge),  integration(insights resulting from interdisciplinary work) service, application. Disseminagtion and knowledge

For our work to be Scholarly it must meet the following criteria as cited by Boyer (1990).
1. Clear goal
2. Adequate preparation (investigation of what is known).
3. Appropriate method (disciplined and systematic)
4. Significant contribution
5. Effective presentation
6. Reflective critique
