2012 Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award in the Public Sector Leaders category.

Marking a decade of celebrating female leaders, the Women’s Executive Network (WXN) announced the recipients of the 10th annual Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award. The awards celebrate the professional achievements of women across the country in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.

2012 CRNBC Nursing Excellence Award in Nursing Education
2012 TRU Teaching Excellence Award

CRNBC Nursing Excellence Award in Nursing Education is presented to registered nurses who demonstrate excellence in nursing education in the nurses' own work settings (e.g., colleges, institutes, universities or health care agencies). Nominees must demonstrate excellence in at least four of the following areas and demonstrate competent or better performance in the remaining areas:

  • lecture, demonstration, discussion, clinical or laboratory instruction;
  • consultation, including tutoring, advising and thesis or major paper supervision;
  • program, curriculum or course design and development;
  • innovative teaching methods;
  • educational planning and policy-making;
  • production of educational materials (study guides, instructional materials and resources, audiovisual aids, textbooks).

 2010 CASN National Award of Excellence in Nursing Education

Fostering the highest standards in professional nursing education is a critical component of the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing's (CASN) mission. The recipient of the CASN Award of Excellence in Nursing Education has demonstrated the following characteristics:
  • Sustained teaching activities of high quality as recognized by peers and students.
  • Committment to mentorship of students and colleagues.
  • Ability to introduce innovation in educational activities (such as courses, practicum, and programs).
  • Leadership in influencing the quality of education within the academic and practice areas.
  • Active engagement in promoting excellence in nursing education.

Star was presented with this Award of Excellence at the 2010 Fall CASN Council meeting.

The Thompson Rivers University Master Teacher Award recognizes significant long-term, career achievements in teaching, pedagogy and the promotion of good teaching. It complements and builds on the annual Teaching Excellence Awards.

Only one Master Teacher Award is announced each year.

The Centennial Awards were created to honour exceptional registered nurses whose work has had a positive impact on nursing and on the lives and health of Canadians. Recipients were nominated for the one-time-only award by their peers as a recognition of their contributions to the profession, the workplace and the health system. Jeanette was presented this award for work on the Canadian Registered Nurse Examination.

2000: TRU Teaching Excellence Award

Sharon was one of the first four nursing faculty hired in 1973 to begin to develop and teach the new diploma Nursing Program at Cariboo College. She was instrumental in the development of the past collaborative degree program in Nursing. She has chaired innumerable committees, has been active in a variety of cross-campus and community activities and external nursing organizations, and was a respected mentor for new faculty.
