Taking Kamloops by Storm

The Kamloops Storm hockey club is a Junior B team in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, located in Kamloops, B.C. The team moved to Kamloops from Osoyoos in 2006 and went on to win its division that year, making it to the league championship before losing to the Fernie Ghostriders. The Storm also won its conference championship in 2008 and placed third in 2010 when it hosted the Keystone Cup.

The KIJHL is known for developing young talent and good players can move up to higher-ranked junior leagues such as the WHL. Storm players range in age from 16 to 20 and many still attend high school or university.

It can be hard for those players to balance school with the game they love. It takes dedication and discipline.

And money. Hockey is not a cheap sport. As in minor hockey, KIJHL players pay to play. But they can apply for scholarships through the KIJHL and universities to help pay for their post-secondary education while trying to advance their hockey careers.
