Slam That Poetry!

Some of the most creative and artistic minds in Kamloops and the surrounding area come together twice a month and share something they hold dear -- poetry.

Richard Wagamese started the Poetry Slams to provide a location and atmosphere where poets could come together and vibe off each other’s work. It is a night where politics, differences, racism and inequalities are left at the door. It is a night that is full of support and interest in the poetry and spoken word community of Kamloops.

Part of the appeal for the Poetry Slams is the venue. They are held at The Art We Are, a local hub for arts and culture. The Art We Are was founded by Christina Grono and has created a venue for events like the Poetry Slam to flourish.

The poets who take part in Poetry Slams are thankful and very appreciative of what Wagamese and Grono have created.

The Poetry Slam and The Art We Are have become a second home to participants, a place where sharing art with others is warmly and constructively appreciated.

The slideshow provides a glimpse into one night of poetic slammin'. If you want to hear more of the poems, please visit the links below.
