Adventures in Geocaching
Many children grow up listening, reading and watching stories about searching for buried treasure. Today, hunting for treasure is a reality for anyone with a sense of adventure and a Global Postioning System (GPS) navigation device.
Recreational geocaching involves taking specific co-ordinates, usually from a geocaching site, and loading them onto a GPS device. Next, the geocacher searches for a cache containing “treasure” hidden at that specific location.
Dave Ulmer, a geocaching pioneer in Beavercreek, Oregon, first came up with the idea of hiding an item and then challenging his friends to find it using their GPS devices.
That was more than a decade ago. Since then, geocaching has grown into a global recreational craze.
There is even a Facebook geocaching page for beginners where people can discuss their experiences and ask more seasoned geocachers for advice.
Join us on a quest to learn more about geocaching and how to start your own modern-day treasure hunt.
