Alberta High School Mathematics Courses: Graduates of 2013 and beyond

Impact on TRU Program Admission Requirements

The Alberta High School Curriculum introduced a new graduation Mathematics program, starting with students in Grade 10 in Fall 2010. Grade 11 courses will be introduced in Fall 2011, and Grade 12 courses in Fall 2012.

The first graduates in June 2013 will apply for admission to Fall 2013 programs at TRU based on the new math program admission requirements, established by each TRU program

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Students applying for admission to TRU for September 2013 will be a combination of 2013 graduates who have completed the new Math courses, and those who graduated prior to 2013 with Alberta Pure or Applied math courses.

  • Students who graduate prior to 2013 will not have to complete the new math requirements; they will apply using the ‘Pure’ or ‘Applied’ Math admission requirements.
  • Students who apply after being out of high school for more than two years, with no other post-secondary credits in math, may need to upgrade their math; this applies specifically to Science and Computing Science applicants.
  • Students can upgrade their math through the TRU University Preparation program as part of their first year study in several degree programs.
  • Students applying for admission to “selective” admission programs need to meet the stated math requirement first, in order to be considered for admission.
