Research 2.0: New Technologies for Scholarship
Welcome! We are honoured to be hosting a FREE three-day workshop, Research 2.0: New Technologies for Scholarship. The workshop will take place from Aug. 31 to Sept. 2 at Thompson Rivers University, in Kamloops BC.
What will the workshop be about? Advanced Internet or “Web 2.0” technologies such as blogs, newsfeeds, and Wikis are going mainstream in academia. Researchers subscribe to news feeds of their favourite journals; open software and open publishing are becoming increasingly important; and blogs and wikis are being used to circulate knowledge more quickly both the arts and in what has been called “Science 2.0.” But there is little formal academic support and training for these technologies and techniques, especially hands-on activity that would link Web 2.0 forms with more conventional systems and supports. The proposed program will fill this gap, and provide students with important skills at the cutting edge of academic computing for research, teaching and learning.
Who is the intended audience? Graduate students and upper level undergraduates who are likely to soon enter graduate programs; faculty members wishing to integrate these new technologies in their practices of research and dissemination. Research and teaching support personnel as well as members of community groups are also welcome.
