Current Research
Project Title: Private International Law in Commonwealth Africa
Summary of Project: This project aims at producing a rigorous, systematic, comparative and multi-country study of private international law in Commonwealth Africa. The methodology of the project involves a rigorous comparative study of private international law jurisprudence in Commonwealth Africa. Inspired by the Common Core of European Private Law Project, the underlying philosophy of the project is to: distil the common core of Commonwealth Africa private international law; reveal areas of difference; articulate areas where the jurisprudence in other countries and emerging international conventions can make a contribution to the development of the laws in Commonwealth Africa; and assess the impact of human rights and constitutional law on the future development of the subject in Africa. The project has been supported by with grants from the British Academy and the Killam Trust.
