Micah B. Rankin, Law Professor

B.A. (Simon Fraser), Dp. Int. (Sciences Po, Paris), J.D. (UVic), LL.M. Candidate (Toronto)

Before joining Thompson Rivers University‘s Faculty of Law, Micah Rankin articled and practiced as a litigation associate at Hunter Litigation Chambers in Vancouver. Professor Rankin has also served as a judicial law clerk to the British Columbia Court of Appeal (2006 – 2007).

Professor Rankin’s current research focuses on constitutional law, with a special emphasis on judicial independence, legal theory, access to justice and the intersection between constitutional and property rights.

As a lawyer, he has appeared before all levels of court in British Columbia, both as junior and lead counsel, and has conducted trials and appeals in a wide range of commercial and criminal matters. Throughout his time in practice, Professor Rankin worked regularly on behalf of non-profit organizations supporting the advancement of litigants’ rights under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Professor Rankin teaches Constitutional Law in the first year curriculum.
