Please save your presentations in PowerPoint for Windows and download your program on to the Conference system when you register (ask for Pedro Lara-Almuedo), or make arrangements with Pedro to provide it in the morning prior to your presentation. If possible, provide your presentation on a USB memory stick. However, we can also accept presentations on a CD or DVD.

We will work to ensure that all presentations will start at the time indicated on the agenda. Speakers will have 15 minutes to present with a 5-minute question-and-answer period at the end of each panel session. Please respect the other presenters and keep to the time limit.

If you have a poster, please see the registration desk for information on placement (ask for Doug Lewis). We have a designated time for the poster session (August 6th from 2:30 to 4:30pm), so please be prepared to discuss your poster information during that scheduled period. Pins and tape will be provided. The poster should be no larger than 90cm x 120cm. Posters should be taken down by 1:00 pm on Friday August 8th.

If you are submitting an oral, poster or field tour presentation for potential inclusion in the conference proceedings please do so before the conclusion of the Conference. Ask for Dr. Walt Klenner at the Conference Registration.
All submissions will be peer reviewed before inclusion in the proceedings. Authors should make every effort to limit manuscripts to less than 10 final typeset pages including figures and tables. Final manuscripts are due at the conference.
A style guide for submissions can be found at style guide For an example of a previously published symposium, see Example
This conference will provide a unique opportunity to gather all the working parties of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) Division 8 Research Group on Forest Biodiversity. The purpose of the conference is to enable participants to share knowledge, to discuss new trends and to reflect on future directions in biodiversity management for sustainable forestry, and to provide a stronger scientific basis for biodiversity management in forest landscapes in the light of climate change. Specific aspects of biodiversity management in mountain forests will also be discussed with participants from Division 1.
Please note that the conference is open to all scientists interested in Forest Biodiversity and its many facets. IUFRO membership is not a requirement for attendance at the conference.
The meeting will be held in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. Kamloops is a small city of 90,000 people in the dry Interior of British Columbia. It is situated in a broad valley at the meeting point of two major rivers and is surrounded by mountains. IUFRO visitors can experience the many types of grasslands and forests found in the Region by visiting City Parks and neighbouring Provincial Parks. More information can be found at http://www.tourismkamloops.com and http://www.kamloops.ca.
The Conference theme and purpose has special relevance in the Kamloops area. There are several large timber processing plants and one pulp mill in the general area and forest management is an important contributor to the local economy. Local forest managers continually strive to balance the demand for timber with environmental issues. Forest biodiversity concerns receive attention in regional, local and site level forest management plans. Cattle grazing also takes place in the forest and lower elevation grasslands. Local forest and grassland ecology studies will be featured in the in-conference field tour. Some of these studies are examining the impact of the vast mountain pine beetle epidemic (Dendroctonous ponderosae) on lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta var. latifolia) and ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa) forests.
The daytime high temperatures in Kamloops at the beginning of August range from 25-350C but will be several degrees cooler on the field trip. Rain showers are not uncommon. Light hiking boots are recommended for the field tours.
Kamloops is easily accessible by road (4 hours) and air (1 hour) from Vancouver B.C.

Delegates wishing to have their presentation included in the publication should submit a manuscript by August 8th 2008.
