SonicWall Troubleshooting

The Aventail Sonic Wall software for Remote Access has been upgraded.  The new version needs to be installed to successfully login.   You should be automatically prompted to install the new software but depending on which version of Internet Explorer is installed, you may not receive the prompt and your access will be denied.

As always, you should begin the process using Internet Explorer.

Once you have successfully logged in using IE, you can open and use whichever browser you prefer but the tunnel through the firewall works best in Internet Explorer, and it needs to be left open for length of the session.

The following security settings should allow the automatic prompt to install the new version of the software:

Click the Tools menu and select Internet Options.
Internet Options

On the Security tab, highlight Local Intranet, and click the Sites button.
Internet Options 2

Make sure the Automatically detect intranet network check box is NOT checked, then click the Advanced button.

Ensure there is NO check mark in the Require server verification (https) for all sites in this zone check box.  Enter https://truvpn.tru.ca in the box labelled Add the website to the zone: box, click Add, and then Close.

We also need to make sure we are receiving any pop-up windows that the site may require.  Click the Privacy tab at the top of the Internet Options box.  Click the Settings button.

Enter truvpn.tru.ca into the Address of website to allow: box. Click Add, and then Close.

Now close all open Internet Explorer windows, re-open IE, and try accessing https://truvpn.tru.ca again.  It should prompt you to upgrade the software. If you still cannot successfully login to Remote Access, and see this message instead, you will need to uninstall the previous version first.

Go to your Control Panel and uninstall both Aventail components.  In Windows XP, click Add/Remove Programs; in Windows Vista and Windows 7, click Programs and Features.

Once you have uninstalled both Aventail components, reboot your pc.
Open IE, go to https://truvpn.tru.ca, you will be prompted to install the software.

There may also be a prompt from Windows User Account control, and you must be sure to accept or allow.
Next you will be prompted to set the security level for the Aventail connection.  Choose Work Network, and then Close.

Now go to https://truvpn.tru.ca, enter your login credentials, and you should be able to login successfully.
