Computer Workstation Self-Assessment

Ergonomics effects our productivity as well as comfort and health. It can be useful to do an evaluation of your workstation to determine what may be causing problems. Often a small change can make a big improvment to the ergonimics of your work environment.

Filling out the following questionnaire will help you determine which areas of your work station could be improved.

Display Screen Yes No
Is the screen clean?
Are the characters readable?
Is the image free from flicker and movement?
Is the screen brightness and contrast adjustable?
Does the screen swivel and tilt?
Is the image free from glare and reflection?
 
Keyboard

Can the keyboard be tilted?
Do all the keys move freely without sticking?
Is the keying position comfortable?
Is there enough space to rest the hands infront of the keyboard?
Can the keyboard characters be easily read?
 
Workstation

Is it large enough for all the equipment, documents, keyboard etc., that is needed?
Is the equipment (mouse, keyboard, etc.,) and documents arranged in the most comfortable position for use?
Is there a document holder?
Is the document holder in the best position?
Is the worksurface free from glare and reflections?
Is a footrest provided?
 
Chair

Is the chair stable?
Do the adjustment mechanisms work, i.e., seat height, tilt etc.,?
Is the correct posture adopted when seated at the equipment?
 
Environment

Is there enough room to change position and vary movement?
Is the lighting level comfortable?
Is the under-desk area free from restrictions?
Where there are window blinds, do they work?
Is the noise level generated by equipment low enough not to distract attention?
Is the amount of heat generated by the equipment acceptable?
Is the temperature and ventilation comfortable?
Is the air humidity comfortable?
