Suspicious or Criminal Behaviour
Help to make the TRU campus a safe place by being aware and alert to any suspicious situations
or behaviour and report them promptly.
- Notify TRU Security at 9-828-5033 or 1111 at once and report the incident. Provide the
following information:
- Nature if the incident/individual.
- Location of the incident/individual.
- Description of the person(s) involved.
- Description of any property involved.
- Assist TRU Security when they arrive by supplying them with any additional information.
Ask others to cooperate if required.
- Do not confront people who are suspected of criminal activity.
- Should there be a weapon produced, take cover immediately using all available
concealment. After the disturbance is over, seek emergency first aid, as required.
Be aware of the following suspicious activity signs. Follow the above procedures if any of
them are observed.
- A scream or cry for help.
- A whistle or vehicle horn blowing continually.
- A broken window or damaged door.
- An unfamiliar person doing any of the following:
- loitering on or about the campus;
- trying to break into a vehicle;
- repeated driving on or about the campus;
- taking apart computer equipment; or
- attempting to break into a locker
Some tips to prevent a crime on campus are:
- Lock your office door and windows whenever you leave (even if only for a few minutes).
- Place valuables (purse, keys, wallet, etc.) put of sight. Reduce temptation.
- Avoid leaving valuables unattended anywhere on campus.
- Request identification of service people working in your area.
- Keep a record of brand names, models, serial numbers and a description of personal or
assigned valuables. Keep a record of your credit card numbers in a safe place.
- Always lock your bicycles to bike racks with high quality locks.
- Do not leave notes or messages saying that you are out and when you will return.
- Keep keys with you at all times. Report any missing keys to Security immediately.
- Report all thefts, no matter how small to Security.
