House of Learning

House of reflection

The state-of-the-art House of Learning, which officially opens next month, has been built to LEED Gold standards, meaning there are many environmental features to the building, including reclaimed pine beetle wood and a four-story wall covered in plants and called The Living Wall. The plants will help purify the air while helping regulate the building's temperature.

The design was inspired by the traditions of the Interior Salish and is our first LEED Gold Certified building. The House of Learning will provide a significant addition to the library and learning space for all students on campus.

Coyote Watch

The coyote sculpture created by artist John McEwen watches atop the House of Learning Building on the Thompson Rivers University campus in Kamloops.

The piece is made from metal fashioned into various sizes of stars. The metal has been allowed to rust in order to match the canine's fur colour as well as match the backdrop of the surrounding hills around Kamloops.

A giant coyote is positioned in a loping stride towards the rising sun. Constructed completely from bent and rolled Corten Steel stars, the body of the coyote suggests an energy or imagination of both the earth and the sky. John McEwen, a senior, internationally recognized, Canadian is the sculptor. – Ila Crawford
