NSERC Industrial Undergraduate Student Research Awards - External Awards Description
Regular Program - provides research awards to full-time undergraduate students
in the natural sciences or engineering at the time of
application. Applicants must have no more than four academic
terms remaining to complete the bachelor's degree and must
have a B average over the previous years of study.
Targeted Program - provides research awards to women who are registered in the
physical sciences or engineering (life sciences are not
eligible). Student must have no more than six, and no fewer than
five, academic terms left to complete degree requirements.
Applicants require an A average in their course work up to the
time of application. In exceptional circumstances, consideration
may be given to those with a B average. Successful applicants to
both programs work in an industrial laboratory of an approved
company for 16 weeks at any time of the year where permitted by
their academic program, and are considered to be employees of
the company. The program may support up to ten students per
company per fiscal year. Awards are valued at $900 per month and
companies are required to supplement by a least 25% of the
value. A travel allowance may also be granted by NSERC. Web
