Dr. Lauch Fraser, Associate Professor

Canada Research Chair in Community and Ecosystem Ecology

Interim Director of the Institute of Environmental Studies

In my research I focus on experimental and empirical tests of theory in community ecology, specifically those theories concerning the mechanisms generating community composition, coexistence, complexity, and the maintenance of species diversity. To understand the processes that control plant communities it is necessary to take an integrated, multi-disciplinary approach.  Rather than look at community properties or ecosystem processes in isolation I merge the two traditionally disparate fields by exploring plant trait/ecosystem function relationships.

My general research interests:

· Plant community assembly

· Plant-trait – environment linkages

· Plant competition

· Trophic interactions

· Conservation of freshwater resources

If you are interested in joining my lab I am always happy to discuss research projects with potential graduate and undergraduate students.
