Thompson Rivers University has joined a growing list of major employers in support of carpooling as an alternative means of transportation. In a May 2005 press release the City of Kamloops announced its support of Commuter Connections, a British Columbia based non-profit society responsible for www.carpool.ca. TRU encourages staff and students to subscribe to this free ridematching service as an alternative to single occupant vehicles. Ridesharing is one of several ways to reduce traffic congestion and overcrowding. Local organizations supporting ridesharing include the City of Kamloops, the Provincial Government, Domtar Inc., Interior Health Authority and Convergys. To sign up, simply register at www.carpool.ca.
