Recycling at TRU
Thompson Rivers University is committed to reducing its impact on the environment by recycling.
Recycling saves natural resources and energy. Recycled products use less energy in their collection, processing and transportation than supplying new material to industry via extraction, refining, transportation and processing. Recycled paper cuts energy use in half, and recycled aluminium cans require only about 5% of the energy needed to produce aluminium from bauxite. Furthermore, reducing the amount of energy used by industry also reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
Typically, an aluminium can that has been recycled is back on the shelf within 60 days. These cans are 100% recyclable and also can be recycled indefinitely – making them a renewable resource.
Recycling makes a difference – it’s the right thing to do!
