Brief Description of the Project:
Thompson Rivers University, Open Learning (TRU-OL) is looking for a qualified content expert/curriculum consultant to work as part of a curriculum development team to participate in the planning stages for a PHYS 1011 Physics for Future Leaders. Physics for Future Leaders focuses on key concepts in physics, emphasizing understanding rather than mathematics. Physics is introduced in the context of current events. Topics include terrorism and explosions, energy and conservation, earthquakes and tsunamis, nuclear power, radioactivity and medicine, satellites, gravity, quantum physics and relativity.
Specific description of consultant role:
During the planning phase and in collaboration with the Instructional Designer and curriculum developer, the consultant will participate in brainstorming and planning sessions and will provide feedback on development of a detailed blueprint or course framework that includes relevant learning outcomes, learning activities and authentic assessments appropriate for an online, cohort-based course.
Anticipated completion of planning phase: September 30th, 2011
Estimated fee: $1,500
Criteria for assignment of work:
The successful candidate will be selected on the basis of the following criteria:
- PhD in physics preferred.
- Appropriate and current knowledge, experience, and content expertise, preferably including distance education experience
- Recent and substantial experience in teaching physics and post secondary education
- Demonstrated ability to write in a clear and consistent style, with grammatical accuracy
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative and consultative manner
- Experience or training in facilitating online instruction an asset
