ANES 4021: Pharmocology and Principles of Clinical Anesthesia

Content Expert/Curriculum Consultant

Brief Description of the Project

Thompson Rivers University, Open Learning (TRU-OL) is looking for a qualified content expert/curriculum consultant to work as part of a curriculum development team to participate in the planning stages for an ANES 4021 Pharmacology and Principles of Clinical Anesthesia. The goal of this course is to present the theory of clinical anesthesia to Anesthesia Assistant program students. Students will build upon their general knowledge of pharmacological principles and learn pharmacology in the context of clinical anesthesia. Both general and regional anesthesia will be considered. Students will learn the theory of current safe practice in pre-anesthetic care, preparation, induction, maintenance, and emergence from general anesthesia. The application of the anesthetic workstation and other technology used in the delivery of anesthesia will be considered as this course builds upon the theories from ANES 4001 Anesthesia Equipment and ANES 4011 Hemodynamic and Physiologic Monitoring.

Specific description of consultant role:

During the planning phase and in collaboration with the Instructional Designer and curriculum developer, the consultant will participate in brainstorming and planning sessions and will provide feedback on development of a detailed blueprint or course framework that includes relevant learning outcomes, learning activities and authentic assessments appropriate for an online, cohort-based course.

Anticipated completion of planning phase: September 30th, 2011

Criteria for assignment of work:

The successful candidate will be selected on the basis of the following criteria:

  • The ideal candidate will be a Medical Doctor who has specialized in Anesthesiology, has current clinical experience and has both worked with as well as trained Anesthesia Assistants in Canada. A graduate of an Anesthesia Assistant program with greater than three years of practice and experience within an educational context may be considered.
  • Appropriate and current knowledge, experience, and content expertise, preferably including distance education experience
  • They should also have a solid understanding of the National Educational Framework for Anesthesia Assistants that has been adopted by the Canadian Anesthestic Society. 
  • Demonstrated ability to write in a clear and consistent style, with grammatical accuracy
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative and consultative manner
  • Experience or training in facilitating online instruction an asset

ANES 4021: Pharmocology and Principles of Clinical Anesthesia

Brief Description of the Project

Thompson Rivers University, Open Learning (TRU-OL) is looking for a qualified content expert/curriculum developer to develop ANES 4021 Pharmacology and Principles of Clinical Anesthesia. The goal of this course is to present the theory of clinical anesthesia to Anesthesia Assistant program students.   2. Development of content, learning activities and authentic assessments which are relevant and appropriate for an online, cohort-based course.

  • TRU-OL uses a collaborative approach to course development that involves interactive planning meetings and review sessions as needed.

    The content expert/curriculum developer is expected to make effective use of any prescribed resources identified (ideally electronic resources, including TRU’s e-Library collection and article databases), and other materials and media as appropriate. TRU respects intellectual property laws and expects curriculum developers to accurately cite sources and identify material that may require copyright clearance.
