Department of University and Employment Preparation

We offer adult learners the opportunity to:

  • complete prerequisites for admission into career, vocational and academic programs
  • complete several adult basic education diplomas including the B.C. Adult Graduation Diploma (the equivalent to high school completion)

Courses in biology, business, chemistry, computing, English, math, psychology, physics, science, social science and student success are designed for adult learners and delivered in small, student-centred classes through teaching methods that accommodate students' life experience and different learning styles.

Courses are offered at the Kamloops, Williams Lake and other regional campuses.

University Preparation (Adult Basic Education Courses)

Complete a specific course before entering a career, vocational, or academic program. We offer courses in:

  • student success

Adult Graduation (Dogwood) Diploma

This diploma is equivalent to the High School Dogwood Diploma.

Accuplacer

Students registering in university preparation courses for the first time are encouraged to take the Accuplacer for correct course placement. Make arrangements to write this placement test through the TRU Assessment Centre.

Student success course

If you are a new student to TRU or a student who has been away from formal education for a while we would like you to consider enrolling in our STSS 0500 (Student Success) course.

Students are introduced to a variety of topics applicable to their other courses. Topics include time management, successful study strategies, communication and listening skills, reading strategies and vocabulary development, problem solving skills, test taking strategies, test anxiety management skills, and others.
