Opportunity: Bachelor of General Studies
The Bachelor of General Studies program provides individuals with the opportunity to apply their diverse educational and work-related experiences towards a formal credential. General Studies students have the freedom to structure their program with as much or as little subject specialization as required or desired.
PLAR credit for the degree is earned through the attainment of Canadian Institute of Dental Hygiene Inc’s Dental Hygiene Diploma program.
Upon proof of completion of the Canadian Institute of Dental Hygiene Inc’s Hygiene Diploma program students will be awarded a maximum of 60 PLAR credits. Extra academic credit may be earned through courses from other post-secondary institutions, TRU-OL courses, or prior learning assessment mechanisms.
Degree Requirements
- 120 credits total
- Minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0
- 45 upper level credits, 15 of which can be applied credits
- 6 credits in first-year English (university-level or equivalent) if not granted as part of the block transfer from the diploma
- 69 elective (upper or lower) credits, 60 of which can be applied credits
Note: Residency for this program is 6 credits of TRU-assessed coursework. The term 'residency' refers to TRU distance or campus-based courses, TRU-OL Consortium Partner courses, or TRU-PLAR credits.

Eligibility
Graduates of the Dental Hygiene Diploma program are eligible for the pre-assessed transfer credit if they meet the following criteria:
- Were enrolled in the Dental Hygiene program as of September 1, 2010.
- Meet TRU-OL credit eligibility requirements. Provisional credit may be granted on a case-by-case basis.
Total Remaining Credits to Complete TRU-OL Credential: 60 credits*
- General Education Credits: 6
- Upper Level Elective Credits: 45
- General Elective Credits: 9
