Rules and Regulations

Contest Period: Contest begins June 8, 2011 (00:00:01, Pacific Standard Time) and ends July 4, 2011 (23:59:59, Pacific Standard Time), hereafter referred to as the “Contest Period.” All entries must be submitted by the contest deadline. Late entries will not be accepted. The contest is conducted by Thompson Rivers University (called in these rules “TRU”) through its Open Learning division (called “TRU-OL”).

  1. In order to enter the 2011 Win $1,000 Toward Your Open Learning Education contest, participants must be either enrolled in at least one Thompson Rivers University course delivered by Open Learning or be an alumnus of the Open Learning Division of Thomson Rivers University.
  2. A TRUe story submission made via the online questionnaire or by video must represent the participant’s personal educational experience through TRU-OL and must not be fictional.
  3. The contest will be closed Monday July 4, 2011 for judging. The winner will be selected by committee based on set criteria.
  4. TRU may disqualify any entry that, in the sole opinion of TRU, is inappropriate or offensive; for example, photos, comments, messages or videos that are vulgar, hateful, violent or defamatory.
  5. The winner will be contacted during the week of July 11, 2011, and must respond within 30 days of being notified in order to be the official contest winner. The winning story will be published on the Thompson Rivers University, Open Learning website.
  6. By submitting a TRUe Story, consent is automatically given to TRU to use and retain the submitted TRUe Story for the purpose of advertising and communications in various media worldwide, ongoing.
  7. If the student wishes to not have their story published, it should be noted along with the TRUe Story at the time of submission.
  8. TRU reserves the right to end the promotion at any time.

Eligibility

  • Students who are currently or were formerly enrolled in a post-secondary course delivered by Thompson Rivers University, Open Learning are eligible to enter.
  • The contest is not open to any Thompson Rivers University (TRU) employees, staff, administration, agents or representatives; or anyone domiciled with an employee, agent, representative or member of staff or administration of TRU.
