Benefits of the Learning Centre

• At the Centre, students have access to a computer lab which is equipped with high-speed internet and all the latest hardware and software as well as support materials and equipment.
• In the Learning Centre, students can engage in a multitude of Open Learning courses and programs otherwise unavailable on-campus or locally in First Nations communities, without ever having to leave their community.
• Students are exposed to a campus learning experience in a supportive setting which offers services such as a coordinator, advising, counselling, mentoring, a writing centre and additional social/cultural connections such as access to facilities including the campus gym, library and city pool.
• The Learning Centre is managed by a Facilitator whose integral role is to support the students through advising, counselling and mentoring. The Facilitator helps students work through their courses and foster their success through general and technical support.
• Students are given opportunities to improve their computer skills and other capabilities through workshops which the facilitator prepares and delivers, highlighting online learning including computer use, internet, file management and more. In addition, the Facilitator liaises on behalf of the Learning Centre’s students with Williams Lake and regional First Nations communities as well as Thompson Rivers University departments.
• Students who complete a certificate, diploma or degree program through the Learning Centre will receive a TRU credential that is fully recognized by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC), of which TRU is a member.
