Open Learning Research Awards
The Open Learning Research Awards are intended to assist faculty members in their efforts to establish ongoing scholarly, creative and/or project-based activities; to help faculty members reach their career goals with respect to sabbatical leaves, tenure and promotion; to provide seed funding for TRU faculty members to develop external grant applications; and/or to support scholarly conferences or workshops at TRU. All full-time tripartite and bipartite faculty (full-time continuing and term certain faculty) members are eligible to apply.
Criteria for, and expectations of, successful awardees:
- Research, projects, and/or conferences/workshops must focus on effective teaching and learning in the area of open, online, and/or distance education, or in best practices in the use of educational technologies.
- Should the expectation be that the research, creative or professional project will not be completed once the OL Research Award is exhausted, the award should lead to future funding from sources such as: SSHRC, NSERC or Canada Council grant, provincial or federal funding agencies for applied research such as Office of Learning Technologies, Foundations, Canadian Council of Learning, etc.
- The results of the research, creative or professional project must be shared with colleagues through demonstrations, workshops, presentations or publications, and must be submitted to the TRU repository for sharing.
- The results of the research, creative or professional project must be disseminated outside of the TRU community. Possibilities may include submission to a journal or to a book publisher, e.g., a university press, or may lead to a paper or presentation at a conference.
N.B. Applications can be made to develop an external grant application that will support:
- new research
- creative or professional projects
- development of teaching-related materials
