Because we are a Cost Recovery Department, there are no refunds once a course starts. Courses are checked one week prior to the start of each course & if there are not enough registrants, the course will be cancelled. PLEASE REGISTER EARLY. To receive a refund, a person must withdraw one week prior to the start of the course. If the course falls on a Saturday or Sunday a withdrawal must be done the Friday previous. If the course is cancelled a full refund will be issued. Costs for courses can change periodically.
Note that students can take any of the computer courses below without taking the entire Microcomputer Certificate 1. Intermediate classes in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access and Windows can also be scheduled depending on demand.
Microcomputer Certificate 1 $1875 incl texts
This program represents the minimum level of literacy that you need to compete in today's job or work market. Computer skills have increased substantially over the past decade and those individuals who have strong computing skills will have a distinct advantage. The program consists of five courses; four required and one elective. The Operating System course is the prerequisite course for other courses in the program. Keyboarding skills are recommended for maximum benefit.

The Operating System (YMCR 5030)
This course will introduce you to the fundamentals of the Windows Operating System with a strong emphasis on the file management features. This is the recommended prerequisite for all other certificate courses.
Spreadsheets on the Micro – Excel 2010 (YMCR 5140)
Create, edit and manage standard spreadsheets. Excel has sophisticated charting and database capabilities that can help solve financial and statistical problems.
Word Processing – MS Word 2010 (YMCR 5350)
Learn to create, edit, and manage standard documents. Students will be introduced to standard paragraph and page formatting: document set up, tabs, tables, and columns as well as built in templates.
PowerPoint (YMCR 6150)
Learn how to communicate with power! You will discover that how ideas are presented is as important as the ideas themselves. Therefore, the goal of this course is to develop the skills and techniques required to present effective and powerful presentations using the Microsoft PowerPoint presentation program
Database Management Access 2010 (YMCR 5160)
This course is for those wishing to gain a basic understanding of a relational database software program. Learn basic concepts of database structure and design by creating a working model.
Accounting on the Microcomputer - Simply Accounting Level 1 (YMCR 5150)
Covers the general ledger, payables and receivables modules. You will learn to set up a chart of accounts, post transactions, generate reports and close the books. Basic bookkeeping knowledge is strongly recommended. Students must bring an 8gb Traveller Data the first night of the course.
Accounting on the Microcomputer - Simple Accounting Level 2 (XPCS 024) (non-credit course)
Prerequisite: Simply Accounting Level 1 and Basic Bookkeeping Skills
Some topics the course will cover: Create a new company data files, set up the bank reconciliation feature and reconcile bank accounts, set up and work with Canadian Payroll, generate payroll reports, remit GST and PST, perform various sundry tasks.
