TRU United Way Campaign

On Nov. 30 about 40 of the 105+ that contributed to the TRU United Way campaign gathered at Heroes to celebrate the wrap up of our campaign. TRU, you contributed and pledged $49,055 to the many agencies that are supported by the United Way. Of this total $4,344 will go back to our own Foundation to support our students in their academic pursuits.
In addition to this wonderful total, the university community did much this past year to raise the profile of the United Way and helped out the community that we all call home. We started in August with a Day of Caring where 40 staff members and students donated a day and their talents and worked at the Boys and Girls Club to do several jobs including building a storage shed and painting. During our campaign, we were assisted by the Wolf Pack Volleyball teams who sponsored a United Way evening on November 6 which raised over $1,000 and we raised another $255 at the TRU Wolf Pack hockey game on November 14 selling hot dogs and hamburgers. The United Way Campaign Committee members joined with the student group TRU SIFE for 3 separate flash mobs to raise awareness for both the student group and the United Way campaign. What fun. All in all it was a great year.
We also drew for the many wonderful prizes that were available.
The winners are:While there were many prize winners at the Campaign wrap up, the BIG winner is our community and the many organizations that depend your generosity. Thank you to everyone that helped make this one of the biggest and best campaigns.
For those of you that still haven't had a chance to get your pledge form to me, it is not too late. I
we are still accepting all pledges and donations. Just send them directly to Debbie Blackwell c/o Finance Division.

Dear Thompson Rivers University Community:
Time and time again the people of Thompson Rivers University (TRU) have pulled together when something needs to be done. We should all feel proud to be a part of this community.
Our TRU community's response to last year’s United Way Campaign was a great success. TRU staff and students were recognized twice by the Thompson Nicola Cariboo United Way: with a Quantum Leap Award and a Community Spirit Award.
The United Way's Community Spirit Award was very special for all of us. By supporting the United Way we helped 37 community organizations that serve our neighbours—people in need throughout the region—the same region where we all work and live. More at
