The Shirt
The “breast aware” t-shirt, pictured here, will retail for $10.00 at the TRU Bookstore, and 21 additional university and college bookstores. Each bookstore is committed to selling at least 1,000 t-shirts. The goal is to sell over 22,000 t-shirts. ALL proceeds will go directly to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation; none of the bookstores is realizing a profit from the sale of the t-shirts.
The t-shirt is black, with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation’s logo and TRU Cares on the front, and a list of all participating bookstores and the message “All proceeds from this t-shirt supported the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation” on the back.
The Cause
The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is the leading national volunteer-based organization in Canada dedicated to creating a future without breast cancer. Established in 1986 by a dedicated group of volunteers, the Foundation works collaboratively to fund, support and advocate for:
- Relevant and innovative research,
- Meaningful education and awareness programs,
- Early diagnosis and effective treatment, and
- A positive quality of life for those living with breast cancer.
Since its inception, the Foundation has allocated over $120 million dollars in grants for breast cancer research, health promotion and awareness programs.

None of the bookstores realize a profit from the sale of these t-shirts. Note: the TRU Bookstore has decided to donate partial costs and taxes for the shirt, bringing the donation for each shirt to $7.00.
The Day
Wednesday October 1 st, 2008. At the start of October – Breast Cancer Awareness Month – 22 participating university and college bookstores will begin selling this t-shirt! Here's where you can get your shirt at TRU on October 1 -- look for the pink and blue balloons!
