Please be advised that effective 01 May 2008, there is a full-time, ongoing position for a Library Clerk – University Library. The hours of work will be Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, subject to change depending upon departmental requirements.

JOB SUMMARY
Provides borrower services; processes, maintains and distributes library materials.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides borrower services such as check out, check in, library accounts, library cards, holds, overdues, fines, reserves, cash handling.
2. Processes and distributes interlibrary loan materials and media bookings to library patrons including those at a distance.
3. Processes and maintains TRU library materials in all physical formats.
4. Provides re-shelving and shelf reading to ensure library materials are properly placed on shelves as required.
5. Opens and handles mail. In the absence of the Library Secretary may sort and distribute Division’s mail.
6. Verifies invoices, prepares purchase and cheque requisitions; carries out follow-up activities such as monitoring delivery dates, resolving shipping problems and expediting late deliveries on orders for interlibrary loan materials and periodicals.
7. Prepares correspondence and collects statistics.
8. Prepares photocopier and printer for client use.
9. In the absence of the Library Secretary is responsible for completing payroll data sheets according to established procedures.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
· Grade 12 plus six months’ post-secondary education or equivalent
Experience:
· One year’s related experience including experience with electronic data entry
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB
· Ability to perform electronic data entry at 45 wpm
· Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with students, staff, members of the general public, and external contacts
· Ability to operate related equipment such as a laminator and cash register
WORKING CONDITIONS
· Standing and sitting for long periods of time; counter work and reshelving books and periodicals
The salary for the above position is determined by the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 4879, as it presently exists. The rate for this position at 100% is $21.63: at 90%, the rate is $19.46 per hour.
