As an international student, you may not have the correct paperwork and authorization to begin working off-campus just yet. That should not stop you from continuing to develop your employable skills to make yourself a stronger candidate when you begin your job search in Canada. You can achieve this by volunteering!

Volunteer experience is an asset that most Canadian employers look for on a resume besides your education and employment background. If you are able to demonstrate to potential employers your ability to adapt to a new work environment and effectively communicate with your fellow co-workers, you will greatly increase your chances of finding employment.
Some other employable skills you can gain through your volunteer experience are:
Communication skills - oral & written
Professional network of contacts
Personal satisfaction from helping others
Personal management - positive attitude and behaviour
Responsibility - punctuality, attendance, and time mangement
Industry experience
Independence and teamwork
