Hire a Teacher's Assistant
Process
1. The Department must complete anelectronic PRR, signed by the Chair, and approved by the Dean. The completedPRR must contain all relevant information including the relevant GL code, thetime sheet approver, wage rate and dates of employment.
2. Once the PRR is approved, theTeaching Assistant opportunity will be advertised in the relevant departmentarea so that students are aware. This opportunity must also be advertised in theTRU Career Education Department. The contact for posting a Teaching Assistantopportunity in the Career Education Department is Shawn Read (Ext. 5669 or sread@tru.ca)
3. While the specifics of the hiringprocess are largely up to the department, it must be an open, transparent andaccountable process, ensuring senior students in a respective program area areaware of the Teaching Assistant opportunity.
4. Once hired by a department, thefollowing process steps must be completed to ensure the student (TA) is enteredinto the HR/Payroll system:
a. The student TA must complete aTeaching Assistant Hire Package and provide a resume to the Human ResourcesDepartment. This step is mandatory to enter the person as an employee andenrols the employee for payroll purposes. An electronic copy of the hiringpackage is available from Human Resources. The HR contact is Linda Ward (ext.5346 or liward@tru.ca)
b. The faculty member hiring the TeacherAssistant must complete Appendix A Teaching Assistant Work Assignment form,which is included in the hiring package.
c. All documents must be scanned andsent electronically to Linda Ward in HR. No paper copies please.
