Co-op Video

Aislinn Harmston | Arts Co-op StudentA Harmston

Our job entailed us to do some detailed research into establishing a foundation that would financially assist former children/youth from the foster care system. We wanted to see what was currently out there as means of assistance and if we were to start a new foundation, how it would be structured and what it would do.

Our tasks involved things such as gathering information using literature reviews, web pages, phone calls, and other resources available. I found looking through literature reviews to be a breeze as that’s all it seems I have been doing in the couple last year of school. So hopefully I won’t be rusty when I return in to school in September! It was also a relief as I found courses like Psychology 319 stats to actually be practical as I have a more detailed knowledge of how to gain the most out of different types of data collecting and the types of questions you use and how to analyze and present this information.

Over the summer I gained a lot of knowledge on the ministry and the foster care system within British Columbia. I felt this job has also allowed my people and communication skills to strengthen as I worked with many different professional people as well as youth. This job has given me hope that yes my degree in Bachelor of Arts will get me somewhere, as this seems to be a common fear that you can’t really do anything with this degree.  I am glad I took this opportunity to benefit from the co-op course. I will even be continuing to work for Axis after this work term.
