Co-operative Education Program
Co-operative Education (Co-op) is an educational program that provides students the opportunity to enhance their education by acquiring career related work experience before graduation. Students alternate study terms with paid, monitored work terms in professional industry, non-profit, private business, and public sector organizations.
Typically, Co-op work terms are four, eight or twelve months of full-time employment occuring in May, September or January. The current average wage for BBA Co-op jobs is between $14 - $18 per hour.

How Co-op Works:
If accepted into co-op, students first complete a Career Management course (COOP 1000) before being eligible for a work term. This comprehensive, 13-week one-credit (additive) course covers all aspects of the co-op job search process along with workplace expectations, and career development strategies.
Students that complete COOP 1000 are eligible to apply for co-op jobs. Students that successfully secure a job will be registered in a co-op work term. During the work term, students stay connected to their co-op coordinators by identifying learning goals, participating in a mid-term site visit, and submitting end of term reports and evaluations.
Business students can earn up to six lower level, non-business elective credits towards their graduation requirements by completing co-op work terms. However, they don't have to. Students that do not wish to count co-op work terms towards their credit requirements will receive additive credit on their transcript.
Participation in the BBA co-op option is voluntary and placements are competitive, with many co-op employers located outside the Kamloops region. Students are not guaranteed job placement in any given work term.
Eligibility:
Students entering their second or third year of the Bachelor of Business Degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.67 and strong professional writing skills are encouraged to apply. We are looking for students that are highly career motivated and keen to complete multiple work terms. Students that complete three work terms (four months each) will achieve a Co-op designation on their transcript.
How to apply:
Interested students should meet with Business Co-op Coordinator, Coby Fulton (OM 1712) to discuss the application process, deadlines, and learn more about the program. (Email: bus_cooped@tru.ca or call 250.371.5627).
