International Business Major / Minor
The International Business Major is a challenging program that prepares students for positions as managers and entrepreneurs in the increasingly global business environment. Program graduates might work as directors in an international subsidiary of a major Canadian or American corporation or as overseas sales representatives or product managers. Those with backgrounds in finance might find work as loans officers for the Export Development Corporation (EDC) or as equity or bond analysts with the global investing unit of a major financial institution.
After graduation, it is expected that a significant number of students will pursue the Certified International Trade Professional (CITP) designation indicating their commitment to the new profession of international trade. TRU has negotiated a laddering agreement where graduates receive all possible exemptions in the CITP program, and only have to write the final accreditation exam and fulfill the work experience requirement. After gaining valuable work experience, students will also be well prepared to enter one of the many graduate programs in international business and possibly go on to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level.
International business professionals must develop a life-long commitment to learning about the world, its peoples, and their cultures. Not only does this knowledge help them do a better job, it also shows their respect for the many different participants in the new world economy. Respect will lead to friendship, which in turn leads to prosperous, long-term business relationships.
