Community Project Testimonials

"Firstly I want to thank you and your students for the experience of doing their practicum at Kamloops Cariboo Regional Immigrant Society (Kamloops Immigrant Services).  The students took the initiative to develop a workshop for the staff at KIS through obtaining feedback from staff and myself on preferences in areas of social development among our working relationships.   I am pleased to report that  Peter, Azadeh, Jessie, and Gurpreet metand exceeded my expectations in their presentation.  It served to increase our communication and cohesion as a team at KIS.  Once again, thank you for providing the opportunity for this experience. If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact me anytime."

“Hello, I just met with Isher, Sheremeta and Stacey and they gave me a copy of the report. I am thrilled with the work that they did for us. As a volunteer committee with very busy lives, their work has made such a difference in letting us know where to spend our limited time and energy with our volunteers. Thank you so much for sharing this expertise with the community.”Marilyn

" Kamloops Society for Community Living was extremely fortunate to have the TRU students conduct a review of our Human Resources systems. The information they provided was exactly what we needed. They worked very hard, listened to our issues, determined best practices and presented us with a top-notch replacement system. From beginning to final presentation, the process was professionally handled. I would highly recommend this opportunity to any business!"

“Hello Richard,

I have read the report and must say that I am very impressed.  This report is of better quality than any professional report that has come across my desk.  This includes the BC Labour Market Report that I receive 4 times a year from a company based out of Vancouver.  The report these ladies did for me was far better than any our company has seen or used in the past.  I can’t even explain how impressed I am with the final result.

I receive stats monthly from the provincial government on the number of people living with disabilities in Kamloops and when I heard the findings of the student study, I immediately knew that these girls were on the right track.  Although the results were completely different from the numbers we receive from the government, these results were exactly what I was hoping for and expecting.  The fact of the matter is Kamloops employers are in the dark when it comes to current staff with disabilities as well as hiring practices for persons with disabilities.  This report gives the proof that THEO BC needs to help change that.  The most prominent disability in Kamloops is indeed mental health, however this is a disability that nobody wants to talk about therefore it does not surprise me that employers believe physical disabilities to be the main disability.  The fact that your students were able to pull this from their findings was very impressive.  Most would focus on our government numbers and try to make their results match but they didn’t and that is great.

Like I said to the ladies, this report will be distributed BC wide next week with their names on it.  Not only is it going to all THEO BC locations but also all Chamber members, BC Platinum Employers and last but not least our funders (Provincial & Federal Government, Interior Health and Vancouver Coastal Health).  On top of that we will be placing a link on our website for all HR professionals to have access to.  I truly do hope this gives these girls the publicity they deserve.

I have to say, not only was the report amazing but they were very professional throughout the semester.  They always kept me posted on what they were doing, asked me tons of questions to ensure that they were giving me the product I requested, included recommendations that I am prepared to implement and overall represented THEO BC very well.

I know you don’t give out A’s often but if it were up to me I would give them an A+.

Thank you Richard for including THEO BC in your projects class this year.

It was a pleasure working with these ladies and I hope you think of THEO BC for project classes in the future. “

Sincerely,

Jaime
