Travel and Accommodation

The workshop will be held at Thompson Rivers University (TRU) in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada.

The Kamloops airport (http://www.kamloopsairport.com) is serviced by Air Canada, Central Mountain Air, Pacific Coastal Airlines, and Westjet. Taxis or shuttle buses will take you from the airport to TRU or your motel. Taxis cost about $30.00 from the airport to TRU. Airport shuttle costs about $14.00 from the airport to TRU. Kamloops has a semi-arid climate that sustains rolling hills of grasslands, wild sagebrush, ponderosa pine, and prickly pear cactus, marking a noticeable divergence from the rugged mountains of the Rocky Mountains and humid rainforest of the Pacific coast.

The majority of Kamloops is situated on the surrounding sagebrush and grass-covered hills of the South and North Thompson Rivers.

In early June, we will be in the transition between spring and summer weather. Spring (March to May) is moderately cool with a mix of sunshine, wind and rain. Long pants, a waterproof jacket, sweater, hat/umbrella and close-toed shoes are appropriate. Summer (June to mid-September) can reach temperatures of over 30°C (86° F) with the odd rainstorm and relatively low humidity. Shorts, T-shirts, sandals, a hat, and a light sweater or jacket are appropriate. Remember the sunscreen and sunglasses.

TRU Residence
On-campus accommodations are available through the Residence and Conference Centre – Kamloops on a first-come, first-served basis. There are 2-bedroom suites at a rate of CAD$103.50 (taxes included) for single occupancy of the entire suite. Two participants sharing a 2-bedroom suite is CAD$51.75 per person.

There are 4-bedroom suites at a rate of CAD$148.40 (taxes included) for single occupancy of the entire suite. Four participants sharing a 4-bedroom suite is CAD$37.10 per person.
