Pat O'Brien
UCC/Cariboo College former athletic co-ordinator Pat O’Brien hails from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. When he was twelve years of age, his family moved to Vancouver where he attended John Oliver High School. Following graduation he took one year of normal school and then taught elementary school for three years. From there, Pat started on his way to acquire an extensive background in physical education. Pat obtained his Bachelor of Physical Education degree at the University of British Columbia and then moved to the interior of B.C. He ran the physical education at the jr.-sr. high school in Enderby for two years.
In 1964, Pat and his family moved to Kamloops where he assumed a teaching position at the former North Kamloops Secondary School. At Norkam Senior Secondary School, Pat was the head of the physical education department prior to coming to Cariboo College in 1970. Apart from college sports, he has been considerably active in local soccer circles since he moved to Kamloops.
During the summer of 1972, Pat completed his Master of Education degree at the University of Western Washington. Pat is married and has two daughters. Pat finally retired as the UCC athletic director after the 1993-94 season, but continues to this day to help the department in any way he can. He now spends a good part of his time with family, and either up on the slopes skiing, or down in the grass swinging a golf club.
Pat O’Brien remains a large part of the Sports Task Force, and if you come by the gym to watch a varsity home game, there’s a very good chance you’ll find him sitting in the bleachers cheering on the home team.
