KAMLOOPS-A leading high school volleyball player from Richmond has committed to the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s volleyball team for the upcoming 2007/08 season.

Kelly Asleson, an honour-roll student at RA McMath Secondary School, is a who was also captain of her volleyball team, which finished silver at the provincials and fourth in the nationals, where Kelly was named a tournament all-star.

The 6’ outside hitter has been named her high school’s Female Athlete of the Year for the past four years and played on the Team BC beach volleyball team in 2006.

She played on Team BC U-16 volleyball team in 2005, and was named a basketball all-star that year. An accomplished swimmer as well, Kelly was a provincial qualifier while swimming with the Richmond Kigoos Summer Swim Team in 2005, has coached with the Richmond Rapids Swim Team and worked for the City of Richmond as a lifeguard.

"Kelly will make a wonderful addition to our WolfPack program,” said TRU WolfPack head women’s volleyball coach Carrie Barrett. “She is a terrific athlete, and both physical and strong. I anticipate that when Kelly compliments her strength with our training program over the summer, she will be a dominant force as a freshman challenging our veterans on the Outside positions. I look forward to introducing Kelly to a higher level of play and know that with her determination and spirit, she will rise to the demands of Program and Canada West."
