KAMLOOPS - Jennifer Johnston of Winnipeg, named a Manitoba Graduating All Star in 2006 and a Canadian Top 25 Prospect by Volleyball Prospects website, has committed to play the 2007-08 season with the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s volleyball team.

The 5’11” all star, who has a 7’8” standing reach, a 9’8” approach touch and 9’2” block touch, was the starting right side on Team Manitoba that went undefeated in winning the Western Canadian Elites in 2005. She played as a starter on club volleyball teams that finished 5th in 2004 and 3rd in 2005 at the Western Canadian Nationals, and 5th in the 2006 Canadian Nationals.
Johnston, who played varsity volleyball as a left side at Shaftesbury High School as a grade 10, 11, and 12 student, where she was her team’s MVP in grade 11, team captain in Grade 12 and named a Conference All Star both years, also played on the Manitoba Provincial Team from the ages of 15 to 17 and has received numerous All Star and MVP awards at tournaments.
“I went out to watch the national team challenge cup, a tournament held in Winnipeg where the national team trains, and Jennifer was playing on the U-17 Team Manitoba and I had a chance to see her play. I then met with her and her parents a couple of weeks ago, and was very happy when she committed,” said TRU WolfPack women’s volleyball head coach Carrie Barrett.
“Jennifer will certainly be able to contribute to the successful direction of our program and I look forward to welcoming her to campus next fall,” she added.
