WOLFPACK WVB SIGN FIRST RECRUIT FOR 2009

For release: February 25, 2009
Kamloops, BC---The Volleyball programs in Prince George have been a gold mine for Thompson Rivers University WolfPack teams since they joined the Canada West four years ago. Usually, the men’s team has tapped into that resource. For the first time since they went CIS in 2005, the women’s program has recruited a player from “the capital of Northern BC.”
WolfPack head coach Cal Wohlford is pleased to announce the signing of 17 year old Elise Foot of DP Todd Secondary.
“She is the type of girl that we want to build our program with,” states Wohlford of Foot, who is 6-1 and plays middle. “She missed most of her grade 12 year after an knee injury so it’ll take her some time to get used to the CIS speed and style of play.”
“I had interest from a US College and a CIS School from Eastern Canada, “ says Foot. “But TRU was the best fit. I came and spent some time during the Christmas Holidays and checked out the campus. The staff was very hospitable and helpful. Meeting Cal and the team made me feel very welcome.”
Foot has played high school and club volleyball for the past four years and attended the Baden Cup in 2007. She has a Spike Touch of 9’8”. In grade 11 she was the MVP of three tournaments and named to a tournament all star three times. Her grade 10 year saw her make a tournament all star three times.
“Blocking is my major strength,” she says. “I’ll need to improve on part of my offense. I’m very excited about being offered the opportunity to play high calibre volleyball at TRU. I plan to dedicate myself to the team and meet the expected goals on and off the court.”
Foot is expected to join the WolfPack in preparation for the 2009-10 CIS season beginning in mid to late August.
