For Immediate Release: November 5, 2008

Kamloops-"It was probably the best game we've played."  The words of a very relieved Thompson Rivers University WolfPack keeper Shannon Kelly following her teams 1-0 overtime victory over the McEwen Griffins to open the 2008 Big Kahuna/Adidas Canadian College Athletic Association Womens Soccer Championship.

Kelly, who made a number of key saves in the second 15 minutes overtime felt it was her sides most complete effort of the season.  "We never gave up." stated the 5 th year Kamloops, BC native.

"We surely dictated the play throughout,' felt TRU head coach Eric Schweizer   "We did more than survive. We had some great chances to win it in he second half but couldn't capitalize."

TRU had the lions chances in the first half.  Forward Kerry Hill  (2nd year, Kamloops, BC) got a breakaway and rifled the ball over the net.   Five minutes later, it was rookie midfielder Anca Duncan (White Rock, BC) who got the pushback following a penalty kick. Griffin keeper Ardyn Melnyk (2nd year, St. Albert, Alta) just got a piece of it.

After a scoreless regulation,  The WolfPack got a pair of corner kicks in the first overtime session that nearly hit the mark.

All Canadian Shantelle Cooper (5 th year, midfielder, Naniamo, BC) found the mark in the 91st minute, capitilaizing on a nice feed from rookie Kelsey Callender (1st year, Williams Lake, BC)

The WolfPack, who finished the BC CAA regular season in first place now meet Ontario Champion Humber Hawks Thursday (Nov 6) at 330 pm.   The Griffins don't play until Friday Nov 7 th at 10 am against Humber.
