WOLFPACK WOMEN’S SOCCER SIGNS RECRUIT

For Immediate Release: Monday May 11, 2009
Kamloops, BC—One of the big strengths of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s soccer program last season was their midfield. In a bid to keep that way, the WolfPack are pleased to announce the signing of 17 year old Alysha Gohringer (pronounced go-ringer) of Langley, BC.
Gohringer , who graduates this spring from Brookswood Secondary, spent the last season playing Metro soccer in Abbotsford for the U-18 Mariners. “ I play centermidfield but I could go on the outside as well,” she says. Gohringer feels her work ethic is one of her main strengths, something which pleased WolfPack head coach Tom McManus when he saw her earlier this spring at a Metro University Scouting game held in Richmond, BC.
“When I go after the ball, I want it,” she states confidently “No body is going to stand in my way.”
“She has great speed and tenacity,” says McManus “She’ll bring more pace to our game and has a ‘never say die attitude which I’m looking for.”
Gohringer says she was first attracted to TRU after hearing great things from one of her friends. “The fact that the program won the silver medal at nationals and in the BC College Athletic Association regular season is a bonus,” she states. “Having a coach as well respected as Tom will be great for my development. The WolfPack’s past record is better than any of the local college teams I was thinking about.”
She admits she had spoken to a number of other BC CAA schools and coaches but nothing caught her interest like Thompson Rivers.
Knowing that potentially, the WolfPack have a few returnees at midfield, Gohringer confidently believes that she won’t have to wait long to get playing time. “I’m coming a long way to play here. I’ll do whatever I can to make Tom’s choice of who plays a difficult one. I know the commitment of playing BC College is harder but I am ready for it. I’ll be working out daily gearing up for training camp in August.”
“She definitely feeds a need,” McManus adds. “With the graduation of Shantelle Cooper, we have a spot open among the starters. Alysha will have every chance to earn it. But she’ll have to come in fit and ready to push for it.”
Gohringer plans to take general Arts courses in her first few years at TRU with an eye of going into Education to become a teacher.
The WolfPack begin their 2009 BC CAA Training Camp in Mid August at Hillside Stadium.
