WOLFPACK WOMEN BB LOSE IN MANITOBA

For Immediate release: November 7, 2008
Winnipeg: It was close, but no cigar for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Women's Basketball team. Playing their first game on the road, The WolfPack fell to the University of Manitoba 63-54. The WolfPack fall to 2 and 3 on the season.
The Bisons held the lead for most of the game, and shot over 50% from beyond the arc to weather many comeback attempts by the WolfPack. Although the WolfPack out-rebounded and had a higher shooting percentage than the Bisons, it wasn’t enough to get the win.
"After spotting Manitoba a large lead in the first quarter and giving up 18 pts in the quarter, Tru wins the 2nd quarter to go down 28-23 at the half." said WolfPack Head Coach Scott Reeves afterwards. " Despite not shooting 1 free throw in the entire second half, tru took the lead twice but couldn't hang on and lost by taking chances on defense to try and get steals."
Both teams got off to a bit of a slow start in the first quarter, but the Bisons quickly went on a six minute, 17-4 run in the middle of the quarter to put them up by an 18-10 score by the end of the first.
The WolfPack were able to cut into the Bison lead in the second quarter by eliminating the costly turnovers and making some key stops on defence. At the half, the WolfPack’s Tracy Kocs (1st year, forward, Port Moody, BC)was shooting 80% from the free-throw line and led all scorers with six points, one clear of team mate Michelle Dimond (2nd year, forward, Port Moody,BC).
The third quarter saw the WolfPack complete their comeback briefly. The Bison lead was increased to 36-29 midway through the third, before the WolfPack came storming back, even taking over the lead at the 1:14 mark by a score of 39-38. The teams battled back and forth for the lead for the rest of the quarter, before Michele Hynes hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to put the Bisons ahead 45-42 heading into the final quarter.
Dimond led all scorers with 17 points along with five rebounds, The WolfPack got 12 rebounds from Kocs.
The Bisons square off with the WolfPack (2-3) again tomorrow night, November 8, at 6 p.m. CT.
