For Immediate Release: December 30, 2008

San Diego, California--A sluggish start to the second half cost the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Women's Basketball team. The 'Pack were slow off the mark in the half and wound up dropping a 75-59 decision to the Seward County Hawks of Kansas in the final game of the Surf 'N Slam Tournament at San Diego City College.

Says WolfPack Head Coach Scott Reeves:" After shooting 52 percent in the first half and being up 29-26 we come out tremendously flat for the first 10 mins of the 2nd half, going down as much as 15. We had 20 turnovers at the half against a very aggressive Seward team. Seward out rebounded us horribly 46-33 including 21 offensive and we turned it over 38 times. It was not our best performance."

TRU was led by first year forward Tracy Kocs (Port Moody, BC) and rookie post Diane Schuetze (Vernon, BC). Kocs had 12 points. Scheutze contributed 9 points. Both were named to the Tournament All Star team.

The WolfPack return home to kick off the second half of their Canada West regular season. They entertain the UBC T-Birds at the Tournament Capital Center Saturday and Sunday (Jan 3-4). Tip off for both is 1 pm.

On whether the San Diego tournament prepared them for UBC, Coach Reeves stated: "It prepares us in that we got some court time before conference play. Seward doesn't play anything like UBC, so we don't get much from that standpoint. Seward is a club which was scrambly. they liked to double team every pass sort of club. That's partly why we turned it over 38 times."
