SOCCER PLAYERS NAMED ALL CANADIANS

Kamloops- Two members of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Soccer teams were honored last nite (Tues Nov 4) at the Canadian College Athletic Association All Canadian Banquet.

5 th year midfielder Shantelle Cooper (Nanaimo, BC)  and 5 th year defender James Byra (Sardis, BC) were named All Canadians for their exploits on the field in 2008.

Cooper, the co captain of the WolfPack Women's team, was a steadying force on the TRU midfield. It was a midfield dominated by first year players. 

Byra was a rock on the back-line of an all-star based WolfPack Men's team.

Cooper was also a finalist for the CCAA Female Player of the year honor, which was won by Ashley Dixon of Mount Royal of the Alberta College Athletic Association.

TRU coaches Eric Schweizer and Sean Wallace were nominees for the CCAA coach of the year.  Schweizer lost out to David Desloges of FX Garneau of the Quebec league.  Wallace lost to Paul D'Hollinger of Fanshawe of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association.

The 2008 Big Kahuna/Adidas CCAA National Soccer championships begin today at Hillside Stadium. The WolfPack Women's team plays at 330 pm against McEwen of Alberta.  The TRU Men face Algonquin of Ontario in the feature match tonite at 6 pm. It's a replay of last years championship semi final, which was won by Algonquin.
