For Immediate Release—November 28, 2008

Kamloops-It was something that we haven’t seen on Pat Hennelly’s face many times this Canada West men’s volleyball season.  That was a smile.

Hennelly had a lot of reasons to wear the grin. His club had just broken a five game losing streak with a straight set, home court victory over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.  The scores were 25-22,25-13,25-21.  The WolfPack upped their record to 4 and 5 while the Huskies fell to 0 and 9.

“I’m glad our guys held their composure,” said Hennelly referring to the third set where Saskatchewan held as big a lead as 13-10 before two service aces by 4th year setter Colin Jaggard (Calgary, Alta) salted away the set and the match. “You know, we had guys out and it was great the way the team responded. Andy Haley (5 th year, outside hitter, Stony Plain, Alta)  played a real solid game….probably the best this year.  Stef (Savoie, 2nd year middle, Winnipeg, Man)  stepped in for Conor (Eatch, 1st year, middle, Aurora, Ontario)  and played well.  Josh (Boruck, 2nd year, outside hitter, Revelstsoke, BC)  got the job done.”

“I thought we had a good opportunity to win,” said first year Huskies coach Adam Ewart. “The WolfPack had been struggling and having a lot of injuries. I thought we could take advantage.   But we couldn’t execute properly. We  tried to lull them  to sleep in the third set. I bet they missed about 10 serves. Around 16 it was still close, but to their credit they pulled it out.”

Gord Perrin (2nd year, outside hitter, Creston, BC) led the way again for TRU.  The Canada West Rookie of the year had 11 kills and eight digs.  Martin Korsbak (3rd year, middle, Nyborg, Denmark) had his best match of the year. He turned in six kills and six block assists. He was named the Kamloops Subway “Leader of the Pack” player of the game.  Jaggard contributed 30 assists.

For Saskatchewan: 3rd y ear left side Jarret Christenson(Bienfait, Sask) had nine kills.  Cole Hintz (4 th year, settler, Yorkton, Sask) had 15 assists.
The two teams meet again Saturday night (Nov 29), 630 pm at the Tournament Capital Center.
