Kamloops-Two members of the 2008-09 Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack Men’s Volleyball team will be playing for Denmark this summer. Middle Martin Korsbak (Nyborg, Denmark) and setter Martin Stenderup (Ribe, Denmark) have been chosen to play for their country’s Senior team as it attempts to qualify for the World Championship.
“ It is always a pleasure to play for your country, and when you haven’t lived in Denmark the past two years, its always fun to meet up with your old volleyball friends. “ stated Stenderup.
“I’m naturally excited to play volleyball with some talented players,” says Korsbak, who hasn’t represented Denmark for a couple of years . “Playing for your country is a good feeling. Anytime you get a chance to put on your national colors, its something you should consider doing.”
WolfPack Coach Pat Hennelly is proud of his players “I think it is great they are both at the calibre that they have been invited to try out for the Senior National Team in Denmark. I think it speaks highly of the level of play in our program and CIS men's Volleyball that we have world class athletes, not only representing Canada, but other countries as well. “
The two players left for Denmark to begin preparing for Monday’s (April 27) training camp last week.
The Danish team will play some exhibition matches against Belguim in May (20-24) and then leave for Portugal to play some qualifying matches. In June, the Danes will host Austrailia in a couple of international ‘friendlies’.
